Dear friends of Sudan,

Water is Basic is in full gear up!

On July 4, 2007 a meeting was held in Nairobi, Kenya to affirm the local leadership in Sudan. It was important for us to remind the Sudanese that water Is Basic exists to serve them. We collect the money and resources but then put them into their hands to lift their people.

Jacob Oyuru is heading up the logistics from Juba, Sudan. One of the most desolate places on the globe, Juba is currently the most expensive city in the world because of all the NGO organizations moving into Sudan. However, as far as we can tell Water Is Basic is still the only one completely focused on unleashing local leaders.

Drilling rig teams are being hired and trained and the national commission is working through how villages are chosen and how the villages are unleashed to manage their own well. This is true empowerment.

Rosemary Khamati is running logistics in Nairobi where Pat-Drill (www.pat-drill.com) of Bangkok keeps an office to supply and support all their rigs which are uniquely designed for the rigors of Africa.

Now that the rainy season is coming to a close we should have one of the rigs fully operating within 30 days. The goal is to work out the significant logistics till they run smoothly and then purchase and start up another Pat-Drill rig and crew. Unleashing local leaders takes some patience but will be the lasting solution that we are seeking.

Enough money now exists in the water Is basic account to purchase two rigs, all the tools and two tractors to pull the rigs. We will continue to need ongoing support to drill and outfit the wells. Please continue to pray the teams in training, the funds and the peace to hold.
