Hannah's Story

This letter about one girl's participation in Water is Basic.

Our family has participated in many of the wonderful opportunities to give to waterisbasic.org. and our children have had an interest in what is going on in Sudan. Hannah's 7th birthday was fast approaching and she always enjoys having a fun party! I remember asking her what she would like for her birthday and who she would like to invite to her birthday party. She loves everything that young seven year olds like and could not make up her mind. In the midst of this crazed girly moment Hannah stated that if she wanted to invite all her friends, she would want them to come and enjoy a swim party. . . but then she announced that she really did not need all the birthday presents that her friends would bring and instead wanted to focus on who might really need presents. She immediately thought of the people in Sudan and how we had been learning that they needed water. On her birthday invitations we wrote a blurb about the Sudanese people and invited Hannah's friends to give their coins or any money they might have spent on a present to waterisbasic.org.
 
Well, the excitement of her birthday party had new life, a new life that God was giving it! I could not believe the talk, the questions and the interest about Water is Basic. Hannah and her two younger sisters had the best time telling the party guests all about Water is Basic and helping to collect their donations. After the party, we counted the gifts received from her friends and the total was $458.50. This amount added to what our extended family contributed is over $3,500.00! I can not say how priceless and how precious it was to watch the ever growing excitement of our girls while they opened their friend's gifts given to help supply water to Sudan. Hannah had a fun time writing thank you notes to her friends telling them about the huge impact their gift will have for others in need. Our family is learning a lot from Hannah's conviction in her heart to do something not just want to or talk about doing it. She is stirring all of our hearts.
