Basic 5k

Supporting Water is Basic

The Basic 5k will be held at 8:30 am, Saturday, October 13th, 2007, at Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving, Texas. Registration will begin at 7:30 am. The 5k Run/Walk will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared.

Directions: From 635, west of I-35E and east of DFW Airport, exit at Beltline Road and go south. Turn left at the first light, Regent.  Turn right into the parking lot at Irving Bible Church.

Trophies will be awarded to the first three men, first three women, first three walkers, and first three children under 8 to finish. A trophy will also be awarded to the team with the most participants and to the team that submits the most donations (based on team registrations received by October 6th).

Race participant numbers will be randomly drawn for prizes, including gift certificates for American Airlines, restaurants, athletic stores, and more. You must be present to win.

Course:  Beginning at registration area in front of Irving Bible Church, participants will proceed east on Kinwest Parkway for 1.6 miles, make a U-turn at Parkridge Blvd, and return to finish line in front of Irving Bible Church.

Team Registration

Teams consist of 8 or more participants, registering together.  Team captains download instructions, team member registration form and the team tally sheet here.  All registration forms for team members, registration fees, and the team tally form shall be submitted together by October 6th. No late registration will be available for teams.

Each participant must complete a separate team member registration form, including the team name on the form. Anyone wanting to register with a team after October 6th may do so by completing the individual registration form, including the team name on the form, and paying the full individual registration fee.

Team captains will be responsible for picking up packets for all members of their team at the time indicated on the Team Tally Sheet.  It is the responsibility of the team captain to distribute the packets to their team members.

Individual Registration

Registration may be completed by downloading the registration form and mailing it to the address indicated. Online registration is available at Sign Me Up here.  If you wish to register a team, see the instructions on the left.

Please be sure to indicate whether you want chip timing.  Chips will be available for pickup on the day of the race in the registration area. Only participants wearing a chip will be included in the results.

Packet pickup and late registration will be available Wednesday, October 10 - Friday, October 12, 10:00am to 5:00pm, at the receptionist's desk of Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving, Texas.

Registration on the day of the event will begin at 7:30 am, at the southwest corner of Irving Bible Church at 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving, Texas, in front of Mosaic Cafe (Directions to IBC).

Registration Fees are:

  • Adult, received prior to Oct 7--$20
  • Adult, Oct 7-Race Day--$25
  • Child, (4-12) prior to Oct 7--$15
  • Child (4-12) Oct 7-Race Day--$20
  • Child under 4 (submit form)--Free
  • Team member, before Oct 7--$15

The 5k Run/Walk will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared…and come!

Volunteer to Help

An event of this nature requires the willingness of others to contribute their time as volunteers.  If you are willing to help prior to the event or on the day of the event, please contact Erika at 972-560-4600 or email to 5kvolunteer@waterisbasic.org.

Volunteers are needed for:

  • Brochure and Poster Distribution: Pickup brochures and posters from church.  Stop by businesses and places where people gather and request permission to display poster and place for brochure pickup.  Suggestions will be provided, however, you are also encouraged to be creative.  Return list of locations where brochures were left to designated spot at church.

  • Packet Stuffing: Prepare packets for pickup, including folded t-shirt, giveaways, and information.  Deliver boxes of packets to packet pickup locations and/or storage.  It's a party!

  • Packet Pickup: Choose hours to man registration table at packet pickup locations, where you will confirm pre-registration per list or accept registration application with fee and distribute race number and packet.
    Number:  1-2 people in shifts of 2-4 hours = a minimum of 12 people

  • Race Day Registration: Work registration table on day of event, where you will confirm pre-registration per list, accept registration application with fee, or distribute race number and packet.  [Will be able to participate in run/walk]
    Number:  12 people

  • Water Station or Course Monitor: Set up water station table, fill cups, aid participants in picking up cups, collect trash, and transport supplies back to start/finish.  OR Stand at assigned street intersection and direct participants, coordinating with police officer for participant safety.    [Will NOT be able to participate in run/walk]
    Number:  20 people

  • Finish Line and Sag: Stand at finish line and cheer for/congratulate participants.  Direct participants to water and gathering area.  OR Sag will follow last participant to ensure safety, call for transportation if someone is unable to complete course, and notify event coordinator when last participant crosses finish line. [Will NOT be able to participate in run/walk, except for Sag]

  • Clean Up: Clean up start/finish area and return items/equipment to appropriate locations.
    Number:  12 people

  • Prizes: Contact businesses and individuals for donation of prize to be awarded to participant by drawing number during post-race ceremony.  Provide sponsor with In-Kind Donation Form for value of prize donated.  Submit prize and name/address of sponsor to Erika at Irving Bible Church.  Write thank-you note to sponsor and deliver with prize for mailing.
