Dear Friends of WiB,
What a great few months we have had! We’re now up to almost 80 wells drilled in Southern Sudan, with more going in every week. To see ongoing pictures from the field, be sure to check out our flickr page at www.flickr.com/waterisbasic
Just a few things I wanted to make you aware of:
- On Sunday, August 23rd, there will be a special presentation by Bishop Elias Taban at a local church in the D/FW area. Bishop Taban is our main contact on the ground in Southern Sudan- he hires the crews, houses the equipment, and makes sure that clean water is flowing! He’ll be speaking during all three services at Irving Bible Church (9am, 10:45am, and 5pm) about the current work and future of Water is Basic. For more info and directions to IBC, visit www.irvingbible.org
- Our 3rd Annual Basic 5K is coming up on Saturday October 10, 2009. Many of you joined us the last two years and had a great time, but we’re convinced that this year is going to be the best one yet. This year we are adding a 10K for more serious runners and a 1K for kids and their families who might not want to take on the whole 5k. The event will be held at T.W Richardson Grove Park, along the Campion Trail in Las Colinas. It’s sure to be fun, so mark your calendars for 8am October 10! Visit our 5k/10k website for more info, to register, and to see pictures from last year’s race.
- Last week, our own Steve Roese traveled to Washington DC to sit in on a few meetings about the future of Sudan and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Over the course of two days, we were again convinced that empowering local leadership is the most efficient and long-term solution to the problems faced by the developing nation. We thank you for standing by us, sharing our values, and for your continued generosity. Onward, upward, and towards 100 wells by the end of 2009!
Thanks again for you support.
Steven Harrell
