No Rain For Six Months and 120 Degrees!

I’m writing to you today from the far north of South Sudan. It is hot, signaling the arrival of the dry season and an even more desperate need for water. They say they will not see rain again for six months, and daily temperatures will reach 120 degrees soon.

Being here reminds me why we remain committed to this cause—until access to clean water is available to everyone, all the time. Yes, COVID deeply impacted some of our key partners and hit our funding, but our commitment has not wavered. Seeing these well these well technicians in action, I know it never will. They are just getting started.

At Water is Basic, we believe women are key to solving the water crisis. Your support has been critical to our success. And we still need you.

Yesterday we visited Daniel Deng, whose business partner is Rebecca Achol. Twenty years ago, a woman could not even speak to a man in this traditional area near the Darfur border. Today these two work together in a seamless partnership. They have repaired twenty-five wells and are growing busier with every day that the rains don't come and the temperature rises.

Because of people like Daniel, I’m asking you, to consider supporting our efforts during this incredibly difficult time with a donation today. Daniel and his wife, Awut, do not have a borehole near their home, yet they serve with great joy. They gifted us with a goat and a chicken, a very costly gift, even as we learned that Awut walks one and half hours to get water, five times per day.

Your generous gift will ensure that the women leading well repair here, and rain catchment construction in DRC, will have every resource they need.
